Animals in Glacier National Park

View Wildlife in Glacier Park
Glacier National Park is a beautiful place to view wildlife like mountain goats, bighorn sheep, marmots, black bear, grizzly bear, deer, elk and many species of birds as well as many other species of mammals.
Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park offers some of the most beautiful site seeing in the world. Referred to as the "Crown of the Continent', Glacier Park has beautiful peaks, mountainess bowls sculptured by Glaciers of years past.

Although the glaciers of Glacier National Park are rapidly disappearing, you can still see many glaciers when you choose to hike some of the back country's 700 miles of trails; a hiker's paradise.

Going to the Sun Highway

Stay at the Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, Montana and take a scenic drive to West Glacier and then up the historic Going to the Sun Highway a 50+ mile ride over the Continental Divide from the west entrance to St. Mary on the East side..

See many forms of wildlife like mountain goats, bighorn sheep and occasionally bear, deer, elk and moose.

Drive by beautiful Lake McDonald and shoot photos of the lake with the Garden Wall in the background.

Take a short hike on the Trail of the Cedars at the Avalanche Lake area or Hidden Lake Trail at Logan Pass. Or if you are a bit more adventurous, backpack into the Granite Park Chalet or Sperry Chalet area.

More than Going to the Sun Highway

There is more to Glacier National Park than just Going to the Sun Highway.

  • Two Medicine is an area on the east side of the park with its own special charm. See Running Eagle Falls (trick falls) where water runs over the falls in the spring adding an upper falls to the lower falls that runs year round.
  • Many Glacier Area has hiking trailheads to "Many Glaciers." Many Glacier is a beautiful, colorful autumn trip as well as one of the most likely areas to see black and grizzly bear.
  • Chief Mountain is a short jaunt between Many Glacier and Waterton National Park in Canada. Chief Mountain is a sacred mountain of Native Americans and when you see the area in the autumn, you are sure to feel some of what the Native Americans feel about the area.
  • St. Mary is on the east end of Going to the Sun Highway. St. Mary Lake has many hiking trails and very beautiful photo opportunities for photographers.
  • North Fork area including Bowman and Kintla Lakes includes camping areas as well as hiking and fishing. This area also displays spectacular autumn colors.

Glacier National Park offers many other vacation and recreation opportunities. We recommend you make at least 7 day reservations at Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge so you can explore some of those opportunities.
