Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding
Whitefish Mountain Resort Skiing and Snowboarding offers 3,000 acres of glades, groomers, bowls, and steeps, covered in more than 300 annual inches of Rocky Mountain powder snow. A laid back vibe, short lift lines, and one of the most affordable lift tickets in the nation put Whitefish in a class by itself.
The Glacier Nordic Center offers more than 7 miles (12 km) of groomed and track set Nordic trails (many are lit at night) meander over our 36 hole golf course. Glacier Cyclery and Nordic offers ski lessons and equipment. Stillwater Mountain Lodge offers over 15 miles (25km) of groomed Nordic skiing around the Beaver Lake area are just a short drive north of Whitefish. Ski through the forest, over ridge tops and along Murray Lake, plus enjoy several groomed tracks for skiers and their dogs. In addition, the Whitefish Trail is located right across the street from the lodge.
Glacier National Park
Main roads in Glacier become snow-covered trails in the quiet of winter. Skiers and snowshoers have the run of the park, including the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road. Snowmobiling is prohibited here, so quiet abounds. Cross-country skis and snowshoes are available to rent across the street from the Rocky Mountain Lodge.
Options for a snowy walk include Whitefish Lake, Whitefish Mountain Resort, Round Meadows, Glacier Park and more. Snowshoe rentals are available at sporting goods stores in town and on the mountain.
Mountaintop riding with incredible views of Glacier National Park peaks. The Flathead Valley has over 200 miles of groomed trails, surrounded by 3 million acres of wilderness areas. Snowmobile rentals are available in Columbia Falls or on The Whitefish Mountain Resort.
You’ll be cozy wrapped in warm, comfortable elk furs as you glide through the wilderness, pulled by man’s best friend. An unforgettable experience, sure to be the highlight of your vacation, as riders will have the option of learning to stand on the runner for an actual mushing experience. Dog sled adventures are available in the Stillwater National Forest near Olney.
Ice Skating & Hockey
Enjoy the Olympic-sized indoor, refrigerated, Zamboni groomed ice rink–or, if the conditions permit, skate on Whitefish Lake. Hockey and figure skating rentals are available at the rink. The Ice Pavilion offers public skating, lessons and rentals on a maintained indoor rink, plus drop-in hockey, curling and broomball games. “Pond” skating is popular on the many frozen lakes around Whitefish.
